Government House,

Hongkong, 3rd.November,1905.
I have the honour to call your
attention to a wish expressed by one of the Unofficial
Members at the meeting of the Legislative Council on 21st.
Goe
September last when the Estimates for the coming year were
discussed to the effect that the Clock Tower which now
stands at the top of Pedder Street where it joins the
Queen's Road should be removed and re-erected on the pre-
-sent sea-front so that the clock should be visible from
the ships in harbour and an alleged obstruction to traffic
removed. Last year, the removal of this Clock Tower was Memester
urged by another Unofficial, also on the occasion of the
discussion of the Estimates. The subject is not a new one,
Sir Henry Blake as long ago as the 3rd. June, 1901, having
reported in his Despatch No. 201 of that year that the
demolition of the Tower had been decided on.
2.
As a result, however, of the last
reference
HE RIGHT HONOURABLE
ALFRED LYTTELTON, K.C.,
M.P.,
